Director's Welcome

Mr. Connor Vinnicombe

Welcome to The English School of Mongolia (ESM) in Ulaanbaatar. At our school we are proud to serve a richly diverse community of families from Mongolia and over 30 other nationalities. I believe that in ESM, every child has a place where they can learn and grow. No matter what their background is, or what their individual path to success may be, everyone has a place in our community.

As a British International School, accredited by British Schools Overseas (BSO), we offer a broad range of curricula including IB Programmes and Cambridge IGCSEs, all informed by the English National Curriculum and best practices from the UK to give ESM a distinct British quality and style in the heart of Ulaanbaatar.

ESM is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young people in our care, following the BISSC Code of Conduct for safer recruitment, and with a robust Safeguarding Policy. We understand that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we expect everyone working at our school to share this commitment.

We follow the key principle that everyone at ESM should be safe, happy and learning. I invite you to contact us to arrange a school visit, where you can see this in action for yourself. We look forward to welcoming you into our community and working together to support your child's lifelong learning journey.

MISSION STATEMENT

The English School of Mongolia aims at delivering high calibre education while focusing on celebrating cultural and personal values. Supporting students’ educational, moral, social and spiritual needs, ESM creates a learning environment where the strengths of every child can be identified and nurtured.

While striving for academic excellence, ESM creates life-long learners, who are self-confident and well-organised independent thinkers, curious about the world around them. Recognising the community educates global citizens who will be the “change-makers” in Mongolia’s development.

JS Leaders x Prefect Mentorship Programme.

At The English School of Mongolia, leadership doesn’t begin in Grade 12 - and it certainly doesn’t end there. Today our Grade 12 Prefects spent the afternoon mentoring our wonderful Grade 5 Junior School Leaders in an exciting, confidence-building Event Planning Simulation!

Working side by side, our senior students guided the younger leaders through brainstorming, planning, and presenting their very own event ideas. From organising responsibilities to communicating clearly as a team, the room was buzzing with creativity, laughter, and genuine leadership in action.

What made the session truly special was the way our Prefects inspired, encouraged, and supported the Grade 5s - modelling the values we are so proud of at ESM: kindness, initiative, collaboration, and courage. And our Junior School leaders rose to the challenge brilliantly!

These moments remind us that mentorship is powerful - not because older students teach, but because both groups learn, grow, and shine together.

A huge thank you to our Prefect Team for leading, and to our JS Leaders for stepping up with such enthusiasm. We’re already excited for the next session!

Our Grades 6 to 9 students had the exciting opportunity to explore their creativity through a Blackout Poetry workshop led by Mr. Samuel Soldan before the competition began. The workshop introduced students to the art of transforming ordinary text into powerful poems by blacking out words and highlighting carefully chosen phrases.

With Mr. Sam’s guidance, students experimented with language, imagery, and visual design, producing truly wonderful pieces of art and poetry. Their work reflected deep thinking, originality, and impressive attention to detail.

When the competition officially began, the students showcased their creativity and poetic voices through beautifully crafted blackout poems.

Congratulations to our winners:
🥇 1st Place: Khaliun
🥈 2nd Place: Eunji Seo
🥉 3rd Place: Ulzinaran

We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated and made this event such a success through their imagination, effort, and artistic expression.

We are delighted to officially unveil our 15 Year Anniversary collaborative artwork which can now be viewed in our main reception area.

The piece comprises a collage of around 1,500 tiny works of art contributed by our whole school community of staff and students, arranged into the colours of our four ESM Houses. This work highlights the importance of every member of our school as a unique individual, but also the greatness that can be achieved when all individuals come together - a philosophy that lies at the heart of ESM.

Below the artwork is also a detailed photo timeline celebrating the school's journey over the past 15 years. We invite you all to come and enjoy this awe-inspiring display.
